Running your business takes up most of your day. Because of this, online marketing probably takes a back seat. Keep in mind that the internet is not going anywhere and paying attention to how people find you should be a big part of your marketing plan. here are 5 things you should be doing to improve your online presence
1. Don’t do SEO or online marketing like it was 2005
back in the mid 2000s, shady SEO “professionals” tricked the major search engines into ranking by using sneaky tactics. Google put a stop to this with major algorithm updates in 2010 and 2012. Google continue to improve on not ranking spammy content
2. Write for people not search engines
Google priority to websites that provide what they deems as “reputable, valuable and useful content”. Answer questions and become a resource
3. Don’t rely on content alone
Content, regardless of how good it is not the end all be all. Promote it and engage. Your content needs to target your audience with its relevance and you need measure how they engage with your content.
4. Generic is no good
generic posts on social media and on blogs are a waste of time. If you don’t take the time to create fresh and valuable content for your blog and social media pages, people will not take the time to read it.
5. Don’t over sell
When you crate valuable consent in the form of videos, images or text make it about providing an answer to someone’s question. If you become a resource, they will trust you and trust is a step close to a sale. Pitching your goods or services every chance you get will turn people off.
This may all seem like a lot of work and it is. Our websites and online marketing should not take a back seat because this is how people find businesses today. Take the time and deliver quality to highlight your expertise. Marketing, online and off, is not a sprint…it is a marathon.
